A Symphony of Social Media

We've officially shut off the air conditioning for the rest of the year. Yes, it seems that any minute now the white stuff's going to blanket the neighborhood. Despite the change in temperatures, we're holding true to our intentions of holding off on the Christmas music until Friday. Just in case you weren't aware, we will NOT be open on Thanksgiving day OR Black Friday. If you're looking to sit down and relax on those days, do it at home with your family.

We "like" all of our social
media supporters.
Thanks to social media, we've been closer than ever to our wonderful customers. Yes, we're talking about you! It's been great to share information that entertains our customers, as well as engage and inform. Facebook and Twitter are commonly the top dogs of the industry, and we've been happy to be part of them. We've been glad to share many songs recorded in our studio on YouTube and Soundcloud as well. We would definitely recommend similar businesses to utilize these networks.  If you wish to connect with us, click on one of the listed sites under "social symphony" to the left.

The folks at Josh's House would like to extend a big thanks to those who have downloaded SkipTune; a free music app designed by our staff. As of Sunday 11/22, we've had 353 downloads after one week on the market. Free of charge, this app is available to all music lovers on Google Play and the Apple Store. If you are sick of constantly hitting the skip button, this is the app for you. Again, thank you fellow musician loungers.

Music You Can APPreciate

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the
lives affected by the ISIS terror attacks.
Hard to believe that November is already at it's midway point! From the looks of several faces of men, November is in full bloom. Over the past week, we've had several participants show off their fancy facial follicles to receive 10% off their beverages. It's so great to see so many show support for such a great cause. In addition, we'd also like to share our condolences to the lives affected by the terrorist acts in Paris last Friday. We have decided to put a second donation jar next to the men's health jar in support of raising funds for the French Red Cross. We appreciate your support.

Look for this icon when downloading.
On a lighter note, we've released an app especially for you. Have you ever found yourself with a jammed finger after constantly skipping over different songs? This app is the resolution to those problems. Ladies and gentlemen, we bring you SkipTune. Basically, Skiptune will play seconds long fragments of your favorite songs back to back until you choose to listen to the full song of your liking. Similar to Pandora, this app plays songs in the same genre of your liking on random selection. With the option of creating different playlists, you'll be able to choose the music that fits your mood. Rest assured, this app will not break the bank as it is free to download on Google Play and the Apple Store. If you don't have the patience to listen through songs you'd rather skip, consider downloading this magnificent app.

It certainly has been quite an adventure so far at the music lounge. We've had so many musical talents contribute at our open mic nights, a jingle created, and even a haunted house; to name a few. The staff at Josh's House all extend their profound appreciation for our customer support over these past couple months. To thank you all, we'll leave you with a quote, "Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent." -Victor Hugo

Rock the 'Stache

What a wonderful past week it was! The last of the leaves from our grand maple tree have gracefully taken their plunge into the cold ground. 60 degree temperatures may be gone for a while, but rest assured that our domain always rests at a cozy 69 degrees all year.

We have a winner for our jingle contest. Congratulations to Brad Bailey for capturing our musical essence by converting it into a song that combines smooth jazz and a contemporary rock rhythm. To reward his creativity, Brad will receive a check for $500 and free recording studio sessions for six months. Stay tuned for future commercials to listen for yourself.

No Shave November Logo

This month, ditch the razor and
embrace the hair.
On a more serious note, November also marks the start of "No Shave November." For the entire month, many men decide to let their face grow long to symbolize the significance of different cancers that affect males, such as prostate and testicular cancer. At our house, we'll gladly serve up any beverage at 10% off to those who are not afraid to show off their fancy follicles. We're extending the deal to women who are willing to skip shaving their legs, underarms, or any other place that is appropriate to reveal in public. This November, be sure to rock the 'stache.

Although November is upon us, rest assured that all Christmas music will be on pause until the day after Thanksgiving. In doing this, we are making a statement that we will not fall into the overblown commercial chaos that businesses usually fall into as Halloween concludes. Instead of overshadowing a very important holiday filled with thankfulness and appreciation for others, we're embracing it. Stay tuned for more to come this month.

Feel the Beat

Winston Duller is Elvis Presley.
First of all, Halloween was a smashing success at the House yesterday. We counted a full 249 pieces of candy given away to our trick-or-treaters in the afternoon. The Pour Boyz band was so energetic, one of our windows cracked right down the middle. Costume contest winner Winston Duller rocked the Elvis costume all night and even signed some autographs. Even the haunted house was entertaining despite the smoke machine almost starting the place on fire. Overall, a fantastic first annual Halloween spectacular at Josh's House.

We have also put together our first commercial. The music in the commercial was written and recorded by our founder Josh House himself in our wonderful session recording studio. He even lent his voice for the epic narration. To view the commercial, click the image source to the right.

Now for the main attraction ladies and gentlemen. Do you enjoy writing catchy tunes for your own amusement? Have you ever dreamed of showcasing your creativity for many to hear? If you answered yes to any of the previous questions, then don't miss the following opportunity. This week, we are seeking out help from musicians within the community to create a catchy and cool jingle for Josh's House to reflect what we're all about. This proposed jingle would appear on television, radio, and online advertisements; as well as several other places and events. Even if you aren't musically inclined, be sure to tell your musical friends/family members to take advantage of this golden opportunity.  The winner will receive a check for $500 and free recording studio time for six months. Read on for contest details below.

Do you have what it takes to make your mark?

Starting November 1st through November 8th 2015 at 11:59pm, the contest will be open to any U.S. citizen 18 years or older who can provide the music to a jingle for Josh's House. Although prerecorded mp3 files are preferred, contestants may also perform the music live in studio for our expert sound engineers to record. The main tagline for the jingle must be seven seconds or less, but the background music leading in to the tagline may last as long as one minute. The maximum length for the entire song must be one minute or less. The grand prize regarding the free recording studio time will start its six month duration on November 15th, 2015 and end on May 15th, 2016. Good Luck!

Ghostly Goodies and Gigs

Don't miss out on our first ever costume
contest this year.
We've finally made it to the last week in October. You know what that means, its almost Halloween! For some, Halloween is a time where Michael Jackson's "Thriller" is on a 24 hour loop all day. It may also mean watching a marathon of classic scary movies until you too eventually become a zombie. Although we all have our traditions, we are starting our own. Ladies and gentlemen, we present our first "Halloween Week Spectacular".

All week long, be sure to wear your most creative Halloween costume if you dare to enter our "haunted house." Those who do will get their picture taken and posted on our wall of participants in the store, as well as on Facebook. You may also directly post your picture to our Facebook page if you are unable to be physically present. On Halloween night, our judges will decide the most creative costume. The winner will receive the $200 grand prize and an acoustic guitar autographed by Mr. Josh House himself. The runner-up will get $100, and third place will take home $50. Get creative!

This year, we're proud to be the newest addition to our city block's "Downtown Trick-or-Treat" event. On October 31st, be sure to bring the kids by anytime from 4:00pm - 8:00pm for some sweets and possibly some scares. Children ages 0 to 13 will get a generous handful of candies to keep your children's sweet tooth satisfied. We'll even throw in a free snack bar coupon for the adults.

The Pour Boyz

The Pour Boyz of Eau Claire will provide
the rock and roll on Halloween night.
For those of you that don't want to stay up eating your entire hoard of chocolates in one night, check out our night of scares from 9:00pm to 2:00am. We'll have live music from The Pour Boyz cover band, bobbing for apples, bloodcurdling beverage deals, and even a haunted house. During this time will also be the final judging for our Halloween costume contest. Admission is $5, but for groups of three or more, admission is $3 per person. Don't be "left in the dark," we'll be the only place left with the lights still on this Halloween.

Last Leaves of Autumn

It certainly has been quite a change in the season from the previous month. The air is growing cold and the leaves are looking old. There is football on Sunday, but there's festive music everyday. (Whoever wants to work this into a song, be sure to give props to your favorite lounge). The staff at Josh's House are always glad to see new faces take shelter in our musical domain as mother nature lowers her thermostat.

Plain White T's tickets at Mill City Nights in Minneapolis
The Plain White T's are coming! Source
With October already past it's midpoint on the calendar, we would like to go out with a boom. For the rest of the month, we will hold a drawing for the best poem relating to fall. The author of the poem that is voted highest by our judges will win two tickets to see The Plain White T's in Minneapolis, Minnesota on November 14th. This is for reserved balcony seating. (For more information, please click on the image source on the left). So get those pencils sharpened, keyboards typing, and ideas rolling!

Convenience is a high priority in our house.

We have also decided to stock up on the essentials that any working musician will need. That's right, we now sell headphones, instrument cords, drumsticks, straps, tuners, strings, and much more! Our lounge has even transformed an old vending machine into a one-of-a-kind music machine that dispenses objects of the sort. Don't worry though, we'll still throw in a chocolate bar or two in there. Any other snack will be lovingly served up by our friendly staff hand-wrapped with an inspirational quote from a musician.

Although some view October as the beginning of the end in the weather world, our offerings have just started. Be sure to make it every Tuesday night to our weekly open-mic night, as well as our 25% off beverages on Thursdays. Stay warm, and keep playing.

Rock the Pink

Breast cancer is by far the most common case of cancer in women worldwide. Every October, several people and organizations pay tribute to those affected by breast cancer by wearing pink. Some even donate to breast cancer research centers to help fund the search for the cure. This week, we would like to do our part in spreading awareness of this terrible disease.

One way Josh's House has contributed to the cause is by supplying music for a breast cancer commercial to a local gift shop. Last week, Bridgeport Gifts and Apparel of Chippewa Valley Technical College produced a commercial as a way to spread awareness of the way breast cancer has affected loved ones worldwide. Our finest musicians at Josh's House lovingly produced the music upon the request of the shop. Ordinarily, one minute of music for a commercial would cost $250, but it was our obvious decision to donate the song at no charge as our donation to the cause. Check out the video by clicking the image to the right. Visit Brideport's Facebook page here.

We have also partnered with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation this week. For every purchase over $3 at our snack and beverage bar, we will donate $1 to the foundation. In addition, you will have the option to sign your name (or an affected loved one's name) on a pink ribbon to be posted in the windows of your lounge for the rest of the month of October.

Additionally, we will have a donation jar for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation at the bar counter for any further charitable contributions. For more information on the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, please click here.

Our Latest Tune

Greetings again from the House. At our lounge, we provide more to our musicians than a mug of coffee and a soft leather couch. Our staff at Josh's House are sure to provide you with the necessary tools to push your musicianship to the next level.

One of those tools are convenient sound recording rooms for rent for only $20/hour of use. Keep in mind that these rooms are for up to two people. You also are in charge of mixing your own audio. Any audio created is not confined to our label. Please be sure to reserve a room at 24 hours in advance as availability may vary.

Our drums and piano are most certainly grand

We also give guitar, piano, bass, and drum lessons. The expert teachers in our staff will provide you the experience you need by sharing the experience of their own. Our rates are the same for all instruments at $25/hour of private lessons.  Interested in sharing your expertise? We are always looking for teachers in need of some extra income.

If you need of a space to practice with the band, be sure to reserve a date and time in our practice room.  This space is 30' x 36' long, about half the size of a tennis court.  Also included in the space is a baby grand piano and a studio drum set.  We even provide complimentary lockers for your gear, just bring your own lock.  The cost is $8 per hour of use.

If you desire exposure for your music, we host open mic nights every Tuesday night at 8:00pm. Performance times are determined at a first come-first serve basis.  Voting will take place for the favorite act of the night, who will receive $50 in prize money.

Be you an aspiring artist that needs that next step, or a veteran musician in need of a place to hang out, Josh's House will be holding the door open for you.
